CAN CHRISTIANS BELIEVE IN THE THEORY OF EVOLUTION?

Many in the world today believe in both God and the theory of evolution.  They believe that evolution is simply the method God chose to bring life into existence.  This is known as theistic evolution, and many so-called “Bible believers” subscribe to this concept.  The Bible tells us that "all scripture is given by inspiration of God" (2 Timothy 3:16). Christians need to remember that "all scripture" includes the Genesis account of creation, which is totally contradictory to the theory of evolution.  For those who still want to compromise on this, it needs to be stated that theistic evolution presents many problems for those who would believe in it:

Theistic evolution cannot explain when man acquired his soul -  The Bible tells us that a fully grown man was created in one day, and that man was created in the image of God, a living soul (Gen. 2:7).  How does the theistic evolutionist explain this?

Theistic evolution cannot explain Eve -  The Bible clearly states that God put Adam to sleep, took material from his side, and used this material to create Eve (Genesis 2:21-23).  Paul also refers to Eve as a real, historical person (1 Timothy 2:13).  Evolution, on the other hand, says that sexes evolved.  The only way theistic evolutionists can explain Eve is to say that the first 11 chapters of the Bible are mythological, which would make Abraham, Noah, the flood, and the tower of Babel all mythological persons or events. Paul refers to Christ as the "last Adam" (1 Corinthians 15:45).  If the first Adam was mythological, was the last Adam also a myth?  Theistic evolutionists cannot "explain away" Eve, and any attempt to do so leads to a multitude of problems.

Theistic evolution cannot explain the fall of man - The Bible reveals that man began life in a covenant relationship with God, then man disobeyed God and fell from that relationship.  Evolution says that man began in "slime," then he began "rising," which is the opposite of the creation account.

God tells us through His Word that the heavens, earth, sea, and all that were in them were created in six days (Exodus 20:11) -  Evolutionists claim that it took billions of years for all the mutations needed to get the "higher life forms" we see today.

Theistic evolution attempts to make a liar of Jesus and the inspired writers of the Bible - Jesus said, "But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female" (Mark 10:6), while evolution states that sexes evolved over billions of years.

The theory of evolution and the Bible cannot both be correct, because they are completely opposite in many ways.  There is no need to compromise on the Genesis account of creation.  Science supports creation, and more importantly, God's Word gives us the true account of our origins.
